The Hard Cell was commissioned by ex-offenders charity the St Giles Trust to show the tough reality faced by a ‘typical' offender leaving prison and trying to get their life back on track. The film looks beyond the stereotypes that are often attached to ex-offenders whilst demonstrating compelling reasons as to why society can and must break the cycle of offending.
Matt Melrose took on directing duties, and illustrator Ben Hawkins gave the animation its unique look. An ex-offender now employed by St Giles Trust provided the voiceover for the film and the extensive sound mix was completed by Caroline Robinson at Aquarium Studios.
We would like to thank everyone who gave their time to this project.
